Maharashtra COVID-19 vaccine turnout up by 15 per cent

On Wednesday, January 27, Maharashtra improved its COVID-19 vaccination numbers by 15 per cent as 41,470 people took the vaccination for the coronavirus on the seventh day of the first phase of the state-wide vaccination drive meant for people working in the health sector.

According to reports, the state could, however, only meet 77 per cent of the intended daily target of 53,900 healthcare workers. “We added many sites, variation was bound to be there,” informed the National Health Mission chief N Ramaswami.

Meanwhile, earlier on January 12, Maharashtra received over 9.63 lakh doses of COVID-19 vaccine Covishield from the Serum Institute of India (SII). The National Cold Chain Centre, Pune is the centre point for Maharashtra where vaccines have been stored and then distributed to different districts and municipal corporations by the state health department.

However, Rajesh Tope alleged that the Centre has provided only 55 per cent of the required dose has been given to the state. Maharashtra needs a total of 17 lakh doses including buffer stock. Despite this, the Central Government has provided 9.63 lakh doses only for the first phase.

On the other hand, on Wednesday, Mumbai reported 432 fresh cases of the coronavirus, 499 recoveries and six deaths, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,07,169. According to Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), there are 5,644 active cases whereas 2,89,300 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,319 in the city. Moreover, the recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 27,42,466 tests have been conducted by the civic body.
