No final exams for State Board students from class 1-8

State Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad, said that the students will be passed and given admission to the next grade without any exam. The decision was taken keeping COVID-19 crisis in mind.

Coronavirus cases in the state of Maharashtra have been rising significantly and observing the same, the school education department, on Saturday, April 3, 2021, has decided to pass to all the students to the next grade, without any examination. This will be applicable for Classes 1-8.

Decision for Classes 9 and 11 will be taken soon, said Varsha Gaikwad, Minister of State for School Education.

Sharing more information, Varsha Gaikwad took to Twitter and said that everyone in the state is aware of the rising coronavirus cases, and schools across Maharashtra continued providing education through online, offline, YouTube, Google and other mediums without letting students lose their education. 

Furthermore, the state hasn't been able to reopen schools for classes 1st to 4th school, however, students from classes 5 to 8 were able to attend school in some districts. Even where schools started, the staff was not able to complete the curriculum. However, the government and schools are constantly trying to provide education to the children through various means so that they do not suffer any loss, said Varsha Gaikwad.

Given the current coronavirus status, officials have realised that it is not possible to fair to conduct the annual assessment for the students, including the ones covered under the Right to Education Act. Therefore, the  decision has been taken to give direct admission for the next year, to the students of class 1-8. Her message on Twitter read, "In view of the ongoing situation due to Covid19, all state board students across Maharashtra state from Class 1st to Class 8th will be promoted to the next class without any examinations. A decision regarding students of class 9th and 11th will soon be taken."
