The state government believes that if the production of Covaxin begins in the district, the production and distribution of vaccine across the state can be accelerated. This would be beneficial to Maharashtra and other states too.

The District Collector of Pune, on Wednesday, May 12, was directed to immediately provide space in the city to set up the plant for the manufacturing of Bharat Biotech's Coronavirus vaccine, Covaxin. Instructions regarding the same have been given by Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, and Guardian Minister of Pune.

Pawar inaugurated the extended dedicated COVID care Center at the Daund Sub-District Hospital via a virtual event, which was held at the Committee Hall of the Deputy Chief Minister's Office in the Ministry. Present at the event were MLA Rahul Kul, Medical Superintendent of Daund Sub-District Hospital Dr. Sangram Dange, Taluka Medical Officer Dr. Surekha Pol, Medical Superintendent of Yavat. Shashikant Irwadkar (all through VC) and others.

During the event, Pawar shared details about the state health system including doctors, nurses etc. who are fighting against the coronavirus. Sharing more information and directing the officials, he said that the supply of oxygen and remdesivir injection should be maintained and planning should in place for all the patients to get the necessary treatment. The government is focused on vaccinating every citizen in the state and necessary funds have been provided for the same.

The coronavirus vaccine drive has been planned by the state government and the officials are working towards ensuring the supply of vaccines for every district. Keeping the same in mind, Pune District Collector was directed to provide space for the proposed Covaxin plant. Keeping the same in mind, the authorities have started their planning and Pawar also informed that the work will be started immediately.

Meanwhile, Daund Sub-District Hospital has started an extended dedicated COVID Centre which will provide good quality healthcare to the citizens. Necessary facilities and arrangements are being made to fight the COVID-19 battle together. He also appealed to the citizens to strictly follow the guidelines which will support the government in managing this crisis.

At present, Covishield vaccine is being supplied across the country through the Serum Institute of India, located in Pune. In addition, if the production of Covaxin begins in the district, the production and distribution of vaccine in the state can be accelerated, mentioned Pawar.
