Maharashtra has the second highest number of dengue cases in the country. The cases in the state have more than doubled compared to last year.

Mumbai, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune and Thane districts have reported the highest number of dengue cases. Due to increasing urbanisation, overcrowding and lack of proper follow-up of dengue prevention measures, the number of patients is increasing.

From January to November, 17,528 cases of dengue were reported in the state. During this period in the year 2022, 8578 patients were registered. This shows a jump of 104 per cent.

This year, deaths were halved with 14 people dying due to dengue in the state. Last year, the number of people who lost their lives due to dengue was 27.

Meanwhile, this year, 33,319 patients were found in Uttar Pradesh. As of November 30, 28 people have died.

Mumbai alone has reported one-third of the total number of patients in the state. 5261 patients were found in Mumbai, 1383 in Nashik and 1295 in Nagpur.

Maharashtra health department officials stated that they have conducted an additional 1.25 lakh dengue cases. If reports are to be believed, the state has never detected more cases of dengue than Malaria. This year, the state records 14,221 cases of Malaria so far.

Owing to this, in a special initiative, the state has trained 11 doctors on better clinical management of dengue and malaria. They also plan to send two more batches to national institutes.
