Maharashtra on Thursday witnessed 3,752 cases, which has been the highest in a day so far. The previous highest day count was 3,607 on June 11.

The state of Maharashtra witnesses its tally soar to 1,20,504 after 3,752 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Thursday, June 18. There are 53,901 active cases in the state. With 1672 patients being discharged in the day, the total number of recovered rose to 60,838. 100 deaths- 67 from Mumbai, 27 from Bhiwandi, 4 from Thane, and one each from Nagpur and Vasai-Virar were reported on Thursday.

According to the state Public Health Department, the patient doubling rate has seen a surge in the last three months. From 3.5 days on March 31, Maharashtra's patient doubling rate increased to 25.9 days as of June 16. At the moment, the recovery rate of the state for the coronavirus and the fatality rate stands at 50.49 per cent and 4.77 per cent respectively. So far, a total of 7,17,683 samples have been tested for the novel coronavirus in 58 government labs and 43 private labs across the state. While 5,81,650 persons are in-home quarantine, 26,740 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine care centres.

Mumbai, the financial capital of India, has recently admitted to the discrepancies in the number of deaths being reported due to the novel coronavirus. Earlier this week, it emerged that more than 400 deaths had not been mentioned in the list of the deceased in Mumbai. However, as per sources, the error in the data shared was a result of an internal assessment that showed that a follow-up on the patients had been missing. It was then understood that all of them had succumbed to the coronavirus but were not included in the list. A few of them have since been added to the list, but more deaths are left to be accounted for in the list.
