On Tuesday, January 26, Maharashtra recorded 2,405 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 20,13,353. Currently, there are 43,811 active cases in the state. With 2,106 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 19,17,450.

More than 47 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 50,862. While 1,84,944 persons are under home quarantine, 2,613 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 95.24 per cent, and 2.53 per cent respectively.

Mumbai reported 342 new COVID-19 cases, 778 recoveries and six deaths on Tuesday, January 26, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,06,735. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 5,716 active cases and 2,88,801 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,313 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 27,29,011 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 188 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 2,179 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

Meanwhile, India reported 12,689 new cases, 13,320 recoveries and 137 deaths taking the tally up to 1,06,89,527 on Tuesday, January 26. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,03,59,305 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,53,724 in the country. At present, there are 1,76,498 active cases. According to the ICMR, 19,36,13,120 samples have been tested up to January 26. So far, 20,29,480 healthcare workers have been vaccinated in the country.
