Whilst medical practitioners are of the opinion that the number of chikungunya cases is considerably under-reported, the count of cases is reportedly at a five year high in Maharashtra, stated reports.

From January to October 2021, the state has logged 2,006 confirmed cases of chikungunya fever which is the largest since 2017 during when 1,438 cases were logged. 1,009 and 1,646 cases were registered in 2018 and 2019, respectively in Maharashtra. In 2020, on the other hand, 782 cases were witnessed, highlighted accounts.

Experts believe that irregular rainfall, along with climatic conditions and enhanced reporting could have caused the significant rise. The infection is believed to be transmitted by the same mosquito that spreads dengue.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that almost 10,000 dengue cases and 22 fatalities were logged till now that when contrasted to last year were 3,356 and 10, consequently.

According to narratives, Mumbai logged 34 confirmed cases, based on state data. Pune district had the foremost official confirmed cases at 354 and the corporation added 215. Nashik corporation and rural together accounted for 905 cases.

However, officials think that the cases are being under-reported considering that doctors have been treating patients since quite some time.
