Municipal Hospitals run by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) are known for its treatment, and people from all over Maharashtra visit them for effective treatment at economical rates. Majority of the patients come from a weaker economic section and are unable to afford expensive medicines.

Taking that into consideration, BMC has decided to provide costly medicines to the ailing patients at affordable rates. These medicines will be provided at the rates similar to that of AIIMS Hospital, Delhi. In order to ensure that the medicines are available at an affordable rate, the civic body has decided to provide them under the 'Amrut Pharmacy' initiative.
