Dr Rachna added, “We systematically planned the surgery. Usually, with such big fibroids, the whole uterus is removed, because it's difficult to save the uterus. But because the patient wanted to have children so we had to save her uterus. Sonography had shown 9 big-sized fibroids and multiple smaller ones. We took out 14 fibroids total which weighed around 2.25 kgs. We took out as many fibroids as possible by a single incision, because more incisions on the uterus would be risky for her future pregnancy. As it was a major surgery, it took more than 4 hours to complete. Anaesthesia was excellent as the patient was very comfortable throughout the surgery in spite of the long hours, and as a surgeon, we were also very happy with the relaxation of the patient. The patient recovered well after surgery and started on the full diet after 36 hours. We were able to provide prompt medical attention to the patient. The “Mama Care” Unit at Wockhardt Hospitals Mira Road is well-equipped with all the facilities to handle any emergencies with end-to-end care and treatment.”
“I was unaware that multiple fibroids were growing inside my body. I was having cramping, painful menses, and abnormal menstrual bleeding. I was bloated and in unbearable pain. I was shocked to know that there were as many as 14 fibroids in the uterus. I thank the doctors at Wockhardt Hospitals for performing successful surgery as I was hesitant to go for it. It was sort of a miracle for me as the doctors could preserve my uterus. I am happy that I have got a fresh lease of life. I am looking forward to conceiving,” concluded patient
