The Public Health Department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a special detection campaign in the municipal corporation jurisdiction to prevent malaria and dengue diseases caused by stagnant water during the monsoon season. Under this search campaign, the Pest Control Department of the civic body has destroyed 1 lakh 6 thousand 898 breeding sites of dengue and malaria mosquitoes in a period of 9 months from January 2023 to September 30, 2023.


For the last few days, patients of both winter fever (malaria) and dengue are being found in the BMC area. Both these diseases are spread by mosquitoes. Of these, winter fever is caused by 'Anopheles' mosquito, while dengue is spread by 'Aedes' mosquito. In such a situation, if proper care and prevention measures are taken, the breeding of mosquitoes can be stopped.


Taking action at all levels, awareness campaigns are also being conducted regularly as per the instructions of Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner and Administrator Iqbal Singh Chahal and Additional Municipal Commissioner (Western Suburbs) Dr. Sudhakar Shinde.

During the period of nine months between January 2023 and October 2023, the Insecticide Department of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation destroyed 94,997 breeding sites of dengue mosquitoes.For this, 1 crore 27 lakh 5 thousand 386 houses were visited and 1 crore 99 lakh 7 thousand 822 containers were inspected.


Along with dengue, the pest control department has also eliminated the breeding sites of Anopheles mosquitoes that spread malaria. Under this campaign, during a period of 9 months from January 2023 to October 2023, 11,701 breeding sites of malaria mosquitoes were destroyed.
