Mumbai reported 1,012 new COVID-19 cases, 1,051 recoveries and two deaths on Tuesday, March 9, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,35,584. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 10,736 active cases and 3,12,458 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,506 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 34,54,129 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 21 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 214 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

On Tuesday, March 9, Maharashtra recorded 9,937 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 22,38,398. Currently, there are 95,322 active cases in the state. With 12,182 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 20,89,294.

More than 56 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 52,556. While 4,57,962 persons are under home quarantine, 3,827 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 93.34 per cent, and 2.35 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, India reported 17,921 new cases, 20,652 recoveries and 133 deaths taking the tally up to 1,12,62,707 on Tuesday, March 9. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,09,20,046 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,58,063 in the country. At present, there are 1,84,598 active cases. So far, 2,43,67,906 healthcare and frontline workers have been vaccinated in the country.
