It is seen that the number of patients infected with the virus that causes diseases like mumps has increased in the Mumbai area. It has also been reported that some of these people are suffering from deafness.


Mumps disease, which usually occurs in children, is also seen in adults due to this infection. Experts say that there is no reason to be surprised if the symptoms and effects of this disease change as the virus is constantly changing, i.e. mutating. Mumbaikars have to deal with infectious diseases every year in winter. But normally only 2 to 3 cases of mumps like disease are found in Mumbai and its surrounding areas during this period. But in the last 20 days, information has come to light that 7 to 8 cases of mumps have been found in the city every day.

Sometimes as many as 10 patients a day have come to the doctor complaining of mumps. Shockingly, patients who complain of mumps also include individuals in the age group of 35 to 40 years. It has also been observed that those with comorbidities are more susceptible to the virus. An increase in mumps recovery time has also been reported.


Increased pollution leads to the prevalence of infectious disease viruses. Therefore, mutations are constantly occurring in such viruses. It is being expressed that the number of patients has increased due to mutation in the mumps virus. Some patients with this infection experience hearing loss with a whistling sensation in their ears. Earlier only one patient was suffering from ear problems.


But doctors say that many patients are experiencing problems such as ear pain and hearing loss at this time. If not treated properly within 2 to 3 days of the onset of ear trouble, there is a risk of nerve damage and permanent deafness, doctors say.
