On Tuesday, December 21, 11 additional cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19 were confirmed in the state. This takes the aggregate tally to 65 in Maharashtra. According to reports, those affected include an 11-month-old girl and a six-year-old boy from Mumbai.

Officials have stated that they both are asymptomatic. Except for the children, all the adults were fully vaccinated against coronavirus with mild to no symptoms, remarked officials, based on accounts. Of the 11 cases, eight were found in Mumbai. The majority of which occurred at the airport screening. 

The children detected with the Omicron variant on December 7 had returned from Uganda via Dubai. From the eight cases found at Mumbai airport, five reside in the city itself, while three hail from Thane, Gujarat and Kerala.

Three were detected from Osmanabad, Navi Mumbai and Pimpri-Chinchwad, with a considerable number of travellers landing in the city between December 7 - 16. Additionally, their samples were sent for genome sequencing. 

On the other hand, from the 65 Omicron patients in Maharashtra so far, 34 have been discharged mentioned officials. Of these 65, 31 are from Mumbai, 12 are from Pimpri-Chinchwad and 10 are from Pune.
