Nine wards contribute to 54% of active COVID-19 cases, says BMC

As of Sunday, Mumbai had 4,645 active cases. Of the 4,196 active COVID-19 cases, for which ward-wise data is available with the BMC, 2,267 active cases are from nine wards in north Mumbai.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), nine of the 24 wards in Mumbai contribute to 54 per cent of the active coronavirus cases.

The BMC has further informed that these wards are areas corresponding to Andheri West, Borivali West, Kandivli, Goregaon, Bandra West, Mulund, Bhandup in north Mumbai and Malabar Hill in south Mumbai, with over 200 active COVID-19 cases per ward.

As of Sunday, Mumbai had 4,645 active cases. Of the 4,196 active COVID-19 cases, for which ward-wise data is available with the BMC, 2,267 active cases are from nine wards in north Mumbai. Moreover, the highest number of cases were clocked in the K-West ward corresponding to Andheri West (328), followed by the R-South ward corresponding to Kandivli West (303), and the R-Central ward corresponding to Borivli West (286). The fewest active cases are in Dongri and Pydhonie area of B ward (8), Girgaum and Marine Lines area of C ward (38), and G/North ward corresponding to Worli (98).

On the other hand, after one single patient recovered from COVID-19 on August 6, Maharashtra’s Bhandara district completely became COVID-19 free. Moreover, no fresh cases were reported during the day. According to reports, testing and treatment along with proper planning and collective efforts have helped make Bhandara free of coronavirus after 15 months.

Meanwhile, on Friday, 578 persons were tested for coronavirus and all of them returned a negative result, the release said. In addition, district collector Sandip Kadam said that the collective efforts of the administration and cooperation of people played an important role in making Bhandara, located in eastern Maharashtra, free of the disease.
