Sion Hospital is soon going to launch a ‘Nirbhaya Centre’ in order to provide help to the victims of domestic violence, molestation, sexual assault, and acid attacks. Medical experts from various fields will be available in the centre to provide medical assistance. 

Earlier a few days ago, the Nirbhaya Centre was initiated at KEM Hospital in Parel. In the centre, various experts including Psychiatrists, gynaecologists, and forensic experts are available for the treatment of victims. Earlier, patients with these issues were being treated in KEM hospital’s psychotherapy department.

It has been informed that there are a large number of patients at Sion Hospital. In KEM hospital, patients facing such issues are in the frequency of 10-15 per month. However, in Sion Hospital, a total of 50 patients visit the hospital. 

In the coming days, Sion hospital will open a ‘Nirbhaya Centre’. The administration has also allocated a space for the centre and all other procedures are being followed. In this centre, patients who have survived sexual assault, domestic violence, molestation, and acid attack will be treated by medical experts from various branches,” Sion Hospital Dean Dr. Jayashree Mondkar informed.
