No New Omicron Case In Maharashtra, Mumbai Logs Zero COVID-19 Fatality

To date, an aggregate of 54 patients has been infected with the new variant of COVID-19. Of these, 31 have been discharged owing to a negative RT-PCR test.

With new COVID-19 cases being over 500 in Maharashtra, no new case of the Omicron variant was reported on Monday, December 20 in the state, reports stated. However, Maharashtra recorded 544 new coronavirus cases along with four fatalities on Monday.

To date, an aggregate of 54 patients has been infected with the new variant of COVID-19. Of these, 31 have been discharged owing to a negative RT-PCR test. 

The total number of cases to date has now reached the 66,50,140 mark. Similarly, the number of fatalities has reached the 1,41,353 threshold. 

On the other hand, Mumbai registered 204 new cases with the commendable feat of zero COVID-19 deaths. Its total tally of progressive positive patients reached 7,67,331.

On Monday, 87,002 tests were undertaken and the number of recoveries registered was at 515. Similarly, the number of active cases have reached 7,093. This is being led by Mumbai at 2,061, trailed by Pune at 1,912 and Thane at 1,035.

Furthermore, the death toll has reached 1,41,353 with Pune at the front with 19,765 fatalities. This is followed by Mumbai with 16,365 and Thane with 11,585. 

In other developments, Iqbal Singh Chahal the Mumbai civic body chief cautioned towards stringent action against those who flout the COVID-19 rules. In a press release issued on Sunday, December 19, by him, people were asked to avoid any sort of crowding, wear face masks, adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines as well as get fully vaccinated.

He added that because of the new variant, the situation in many countries across the globe has again gone out of control causing a lockdown like condition. Therefore, he has appealed to the citizens to adhere to the COVID-19 protocols in restaurants, hotels, cinemas, malls, amongst other places.
