The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation continues to report a surge in the number of coronavirus cases as 239 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, July 9, 2020.

According to NMMC sources, out of the 239 cases reported on Thursday, Nerul reported a maximum of 59 cases, followed by Koparkhairane which stands at 48 cases, Ghansoli at 39 and Airoli at 29 cases. In one month, the death rate in Navi Mumbai has gone up from 3.13 per cent to 3.26 per cent.

The state government had earlier started “Mission Begin Again” which led to the relaxations in the lockdown guidelines. However, after being in lockdown for months, people resumed venturing out in large numbers. It was also noted that the people irresponsibly traversed without wearing masks, further refusing to adhere to the social distancing protocols. As a consequence, the number of patients suffering from COVID-19 increased rapidly in a month.

On June 9, the number of patients suffering from the coronavirus in Navi Mumbai was 3,063. The death toll was 96. On Thursday, the number of patients has gone up to 8,518. In other words, the number of patients has increased by 5 thousand 455 in one month which means on an average, about 200 new patients are added every day during the month.

By the first week of June, there were a total of 96 deaths. An average of 2 to 3 deaths was reported per day. The death toll has risen from 96 to 278 in one month. As the number of patients and deaths increased, so did the number of people recovering. In that sense, the people of Navi Mumbai have received some relief. So far 5,083 patients have been cured. The cure rate is said to be 60 per cent.

Meanwhile, the state of Maharashtra has witnessed 6,875 fresh cases of the coronavirus on Thursday. This took the overall tally of confirmed cases to 2,30,599, according to the state health department.
