Navi Mumbai COVID-19 tally crosses 1,000-mark

Of the positive cases in Navi Mumbai, 753 are undergoing treatment, while 272 have recovered and 23 have succumbed to the infection

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC), on Friday, recorded 74 fresh COVID-19 cases, taking the area's tally to 1,048. Navi Mumbai also reported four deaths throughout the day, taking its death toll to 23. Of the positive cases, 753 are undergoing treatment, while 272 have recovered.

The breakdown in the area is as follows: nineteen new cases were recorded in Koparkhairane, 18 in Nerul, 14 in Turbhe, 13 in Ghansoli and two each in Belapur, Airoli and Digha. Meanwhile, of the four fatalities on Friday, one was a 60-year-old man from Turbhe who had lost his wife a few months ago and was suffering from hypertension. He was admitted to the hospital after a sudden increase in coughing, where he tested positive. He passed away on Thursday.

The other victims include a 68-year-old Nerul resident, who was a vegetable trader at APMC market, a 42-year-old man from Ghansoli, who worked as a housekeeper, and a 50-year-old man from Koparkhairane, whose brother was an APMC market employee.

Previously, two traders from Vashi's Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) had died of coronavirus. The two were potato and onion traders, due to which, a state of panic has spread amongst the fellow traders. The two passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

So far, 117 people from the Vashi market have tested positive for COVID-19. Of which, 55 of them worked at the APMC market which consists of traders, workers and, labourers. The remaining were contacts of the persons from the APMC market who had tested positive.

Neighbouring area, Panvel recorded 15 new cases on Friday, taking its tally to 234. The Panvel Municipal Corporation stated that so far, 100 have recovered, seven have died and 127 are being treated. Four patients from Panvel were discharged on Friday.
