Two Vashi APMC traders succumb to coronavirus

On Thursday, two traders from Vashi's Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) died of coronavirus. The two were potato and onion traders, due to which, a state of panic has spread amongst the fellow traders. The two passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

So far, 117 people from the Vashi market have tested positive for COVID-19. Of which, 55 of them worked at the APMC market which consists of traders, workers and, labourers. The remaining were contacts of the persons from the APMC market who had tested positive.

As the contagion poses a threat to the people working in the market, BJP leader Ganesh Naik has demanded that the APMC market should remain shut even after May 17 if the traders don't take enough precautions to avoid the spread of the virus. The market administration had decided on May 10 to shut operations in the market from May 11 to May 17 after 40 per cent of the total COVID-19 patients in Navi Mumbai were discovered to be APMC market workers.

On Thursday, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation recorded 64 fresh cases of COVID-19, taking the area's tally to 974. On the brighter side, a total of 53 patients were discharged, taking the total number of people who have recovered/ discharged to 255. On the other hand, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) reported 20 new cases on Thursday. With this, the tally of COVID-19 patients in Panvel has risen to 219.
