Navi Mumbai records 64 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday; total tally nears 1,000-mark

Of the 64 fresh COVID-19 cases in Navi Mumbai, thirteen were recorded from Nerul, 12 each from Airoli and Koparkhairane, seven in Digha, and five each in Turbhe, Vashi, Belapur, and Ghansoli.

On Thursday, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation recorded 64 fresh cases of COVID-19, taking the area's tally to 974. On the brighter side, a total of 53 patients were discharged, taking the total number of people who have recovered/ discharged to 255. The breakdown of the fresh cases is as follows: thirteen were recorded from Nerul, 12 each from Airoli and Koparkhairane, seven in Digha, and five each in Turbhe, Vashi, Belapur, and Ghansoli.

On the other hand, the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) reported 20 new cases on Thursday. With this, the tally of COVID-19 patients in Panvel has risen to 219. Eight patients were discharged on Thursday, taking the total number of recoveries in the area to 96. Alongside, seven cases were reported within Panvel Rural limits, taking the tally in the area to 81. Currently, the number of active cases under PMC is 116 and under Panvel Rural it is 64.

The Panvel civic body had eased lockdown regulations for commercial establishments, Thursday onwards. Ganesh Deshmukh, PMC Commissioner, told The Hindu that the changes have been made as per public demand. He added that the people have started maintaining physical distancing and taking precautions while making purchases.

"More measures need to be taken at fish and vegetable markets. No malls have been allowed to open and the business hours will be strictly from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm as per the directions of the Navi Mumbai Police. We are seeing autorickshaws and cabs on the road. We have appealed to the public not to use them as they can be carriers of the virus,” he added.

What is allowed?

The photocopy centers along with the stationery, hardware, and general stores have been allowed to remain open on Monday and Friday. Whereas workshops, service centers, and automobile garages, optical shops and footwear shops have been allowed to open on Tuesday and Saturday.

The godowns will now be allowed to stay open along with electronic shops and repair centers on Wednesday and Sunday. Textile shops can open on Friday.
