According to the latest reports, Mumbai has achieved 49.9 per cent fire dose vaccine coverage against COVID-19 in the 15-18 age group. On the other hand, the full vaccination coverage in the said age group is 24.2 per cent.

Based on accounts, this is considerably lower than Maharashtra’s average which is at 57 per cent for the first dose and 27 per cent for the second dose. It has also been reported that Mumbai is in the bottom districts when it comes to vaccination in this age group.

Narratives claim that the city’s target population in the said age bracket is 612,000. While the inoculation drive for those between 15 and 18 commenced on January 3 in India, until Thursday, February 17 at 6 pm Mumbai had given 396,972 doses (both doses combined) in this section, highlighted the CoWin dashboard.

Amongst the 36 districts in Maharashtra, Mumbai was seventh from the bottom when it came to first dose coverage and 19th from the bottom in the second dose coverage of those below 18.

The top three performing districts for the first dose coverage in the under 18 population include Bhandara (79 per cent), Sangli (73 per cent), Kolhapur (72 per cent). On the second dose front, those leading the chart are Sangli (68 per cent), Raigad (43 per cent), Bhandara (40 per cent).

To boost the vaccination coverage in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has collaborated with an NGO to curate vaccine camps at educational institutions’ campuses. College principals can avail of this service at no cost, stated the civic body.
