Mumbai records over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases; six deaths on March 3

1,121 new COVID-19 cases were found in Mumbai taking the caseload up to 3,28,740 while 734 people have completely recovered and discharged from the hospital.

Mumbai reported 1,121 new COVID-19 cases, 734 recoveries and six deaths on Wednesday, March 3, taking the total number of cases in the financial capital to 3,28,740. According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, there are 10,010 active cases and 3,06,373 patients have completely recovered so far. The death toll is at 11,482 in the city. The recovery rate stands at 93 per cent. At present 32,31,942 tests have been conducted by the BMC. There are 16 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 161 buildings are sealed by the BMC.

On Wednesday, March 3, Maharashtra recorded 9,855 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus. This propelled the state's COVID-19 tally to 21,79,185. Currently, there are 82,343 active cases in the state. With 6,559 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered soared to 20,43,349.

More than 42 people from the state have lost their lives to this disease in the last 24 hours while the total has now mounted to 52,280. While 3,60,500 persons are under home quarantine, 3,701 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. The COVID-19 recovery rate and fatality rate in the state stand at 93.77 per cent, and 2.40 per cent respectively.

Meanwhile, India reported 17,407 new cases, 14,031 recoveries and 89 deaths taking the tally up to 1,11,56,923 on Wednesday, March 3. According to the data by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in total 1,08,26,075 have completely recovered. The death toll is at 1,57,435 in the country. At present, there are 1,73,413 active cases. So far, 1,66,16,048 healthcare and frontline workers have been vaccinated in the country.
