Navi Mumbai: Over 1,600 Mosquito-breeding Spots Discovered By Civic Authority

On Tuesday, officials, according to a report by the PTI stated that over 1,600 mosquito-breeding spots were identified in Navi Mumbai over the last two months in the present monsoon season. The civic authorities have thus urged health officers to augment activities to prevent malaria and dengue cases in the township.

Apart from this, this year from January to August eight and 12 cases of dengue and malaria respectively, were identified in Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra. On Monday, the data was highlighted during a review meeting conducted by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Abhijit Bangar alongside senior civic officials, Mahendra Konde, NMMC spokesperson stated, stated the narrative.

This year in July and August, the civic authority checked 4,12,907 homes and found mosquitoes breeding in 1,644 homes, the official said. Additionally, 695 mosquito-breeding spots there were destroyed and in 949 other locations disinfectants were sprayed.

The official elaborated that whilst on the survey, many areas with garbage and stationery water on building terraces were spotted. People were thus asked to remove the garbage and see to it that water doesn’t accumulate in their homes and other open spaces.

Between January and August this year, the official added that 55,157 blood samples of people were tested. Out of this, eight were positive for dengue and 12 for malaria.

Sanitization and disinfection of homes where patients were found were conducted by the civic authority. On Monday, during the review meeting, the NMMC Chief urged officials from the health department to intensify measures to hinder cases of dengue and malaria, highlighted the official.
