In recent developments, MP Rahul Shewale has informed that the Bhabha Atomic Energy Research Center (BARC) in order to address the problem of oxygen shortage in Mumbai has now taken steps to supply oxygen to Mumbai.

In the first phase, about 10 cylinders of 50 litres each will be available from this plant. As the second wave of the coronavirus has intensified, Maharashtra is facing the problem of oxygen shortage. In view of the situation, Shewale had earlier appealed to the BARC official scientists to find a solution due to which BARC then set up a special plant to produce oxygen from the water.

From this plant, about 10 cylinders of 50 litres of oxygen will be made available. The cylinders will be supplied to government hospitals and COVID-19 care centres in south-central Mumbai. Moreover, BARC has indicated its readiness to increase supply as per demand. Moreover, the National Chemicals Fertilizers (RCF) has set up an oxygen plant at Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi under the initiative of MP Rahul Shewale along with the BARC plant.

According to sources, a similar plant will be commissioned by BPCL soon. As a result of all this, South-Central Mumbai will soon be free from the problem of oxygen shortage, MP Shewale further added. In addition to operating the oxygen plant, BARC scientists have developed up-to-date masks for civilian use. Meanwhile, scientists have claimed that this mask is safer than N95. Furthermore, BARC has also developed a remote body temperature machine.
