Parel – The patients from poor strata of the society are suffering immensely due to the strike of Resident Doctors in government hospitals. The strike of doctors is likely to continue till government takes a favourable decision.
The board indicating that the OPD would remain close due to doctors’ strike was noticeable at KEM Hospital here. Though the hospital administration expressed regret in this board, it was of no use to patients who were eagerly awaiting their turn for medical aid at government hospitals. As 90% patients come from rural areas in hospitals like KEM, they are unaware of the strike. Many keep quite as they want to get treated. A large number of pregnant women and thyroid patients had come to KEM Hospital for regular check-up on Tuesday.

Jagdish Bhosale, a resident of Pune, said that he came to KEM to get his son treated for kidney ailment. As OPD was close, he was awaiting of its opening. Doctors were directing him from one place to another and he was worried of his child not getting medical treatment and his condition may get worse.

One Pradnya Kamble, a resident of Sewree, said that she came for regular treatment during her pregnancy. She was given an appointment on Tuesday but none of the doctors was present to take care of pregnant women.

Namrata Pawar, who had come to KEM Hospital on Tuesday morning from Ratnagiri, expressed her anger by saying that doctors behave rudely with patients and hence they get attacked. How can a patient who wants to get treated attack the doctors? It is the irresponsible behaviour of doctors that lead them to attack doctors, she said out of frustration.
