Blood donation is considered as a noble donation of all. It is one such donation which is done by most of the people. One such is Pundlik Awhad who is a police naik attached Sewree's Mumbai Traffic Police who has been donating blood for 20 years. This year, he completed a half-century in donating blood.
It was his daughter and son who made him understand the importance of a blood donation. Awhad had lost his son to illness, he did not wanted to lose his daughter.
It was 2002 when my daughter Dnyaneshwari was scheduled for heart surgery and was in need of blood for the same. I had to literally beg for a blood and at that very moment, I pledged that I would donate blood all my lifetime. Also, during the same year, I met one family in a hospital who was in need of O+ blood but was not getting any. I immediately stepped forward and donated my blood,” Pundlik Awhad, blood donor.
Now, it’s been 20 years, Awhad has not missed a single blood donation camp. In a year, he approximately donates 2-3 times blood. Additional Commissioner of Police Atul Patil too felicitated him for his act of social service.
Awhad hails from Ahmednagar’s Pathardi district where he conducts various blood donation camps and urges others to donate blood.
