Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope met Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday, November 16. The meeting took place in Delhi where Tope asked Mandaviya when will the vaccination programme begin for the under-18 age group. He also sought a booster dose for health workers to prepare for a possible COVID-19 third wave.

In addition, he also urged the Union Minister of Health to consider reducing the gap of 84 days between two shots of the Covishield vaccine and reduce it to 28 days. Tope aims at increasing the number of fully vaccinated people; hence, urging the Centre to reduce the gap between two doses of vaccine.

A health department official said that there is a possibility of the third wave. Therefore, the Maharashtra minister asked for approval on the budget allocation for human resources in supplementary program implementation plans, which is under the National Health Mission.

The state minister on his Facebook posted that he also urged Mandaviya to approve the revised proposal regarding setting up Cath Labs.


Meanwhile, on November 9, Maharashtra had crossed the 100 million COVID-19 vaccination mark. On the other hand, Mumbai achieved its set target of administering the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine on November 13.
