According to sources, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has started preparing for the second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination.

While the first phase of the vaccination campaign is in progress, a training round will be conducted for the next two days to test the readiness of the second phase as well as the first phase. Moreover, two lakh essential service employees have been registered for the second phase.

Currently, vaccination is underway at 12 centres across Mumbai, with around 500 to 1,000 beneficiaries being vaccinated at each centre. The capacity of the centres is high, however, not all the available rooms can be accessed as a limited number of rooms are allowed to be run by the centre. Moreover, the app for COVID-19 vaccination still has errors and it reportedly runs very slow.

The Maharashtra government back in January began administering the vaccine for the coronavirus in a state-wide vaccination drive, as directed by the central government. As planned, healthcare workers across the state were given the vaccine in the first phase of the drive. According to official data, as of February 2, a total of 40,331 (77 per cent) health workers received the vaccine across 531 centres in the state.

Meanwhile, the highest number of vaccinations in the state was given in Mumbai suburban district (161 per cent) followed by Amravati, Pune, Dhule and Wardha districts which recorded more than 95 per cent participation in the drive. Furthermore, over 3.9 lakh employees have been vaccinated in the state, informed the Principal Secretary of the Health Department Dr Pradeep Vyas.
