Several patients infected with the coronavirus are undergoing treatment at private hospitals in Mumbai, and as a part of the treatment, they are being given Remdesivir injections at a cost of INR 2,360. Considering a fair policy, the state government has fixed rates for the injections and centres were set up in each district across Maharashtra to ensure the injections are available at a fair cost. A letter was sent to the Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Dr Pradip Vyas, by the concerned officials regarding the same.
Currently, the drug is available free of cost at government hospitals across the state, however, officials were getting many complaints from patients in private hospitals claiming that they were not getting the drug or were being given at a higher price. This led to the standardisation of the cost of the injection, and it is said to benefit the patients seeking treatment in Maharashtra.
The government has set up a total of 59 drug centres in the state to provide the injections at fixed rates to patients undergoing treatment in private hospitals. Out of the 59 centres, five are in Amravati division, 10 in Konkan division, six in Nagpur division, 11 in Aurangabad division, nine in Nashik division, five in Mumbai (BMC) division and 13 in Pune division.
As per records, hospitals requiring injections must send a proposal to the authorities authorized to do so, and should also include the prescription, patient's COVID19 positive report, license or certificate with Aadhar card or photograph, and the medical information of the patient.
