As per reports, Serum Institute of India (SII) has joined hands with five vaccine candidates to battle the coronavirus, Adar Poonawalla announced on November 5.

Earlier this year, SII signed an agreement with British-Swedish firm AstraZeneca to manufacture its experimental vaccine developed by the University of Oxford. The Oxford COVID-19 vaccine is currently in phase II/III clinical trial in the country. According to a report in Livemint, SII also partnered with Novavax Inc back in August to manufacture its potential COVID-19 vaccine for India and other countries.

On the other hand, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, in a meeting with the Group of Ministers on October 13 had stated that India is likely to have a vaccine against the coronavirus by early next year. Moreover, the World Health Organization (WHO) Chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan had reiterated the same stating that the vaccine should be ready for registration by the end of 2020 or next year at the earliest.

In the past, Harsh Vardhan, addressing a special session of the WHO executive board had stated that therapeutic diagnostic and vaccines for the whole world are the only way out of the pandemic. In addition, he appreciated the member states for their contribution in battling the pandemic together all the while displaying solidarity. He also encouraged people to rise to the occasion to help the ones who are powerless as well.
