A seven-month-old baby swallowed three keys at once while playing at home. As the keys got stuck in his windpipe, he had trouble breathing and his condition worsened. But the doctors of Rajawadi hospital immediately operated on it and removed all the three keys from the baby's breathing tube and saved the baby's life.
Two weeks ago, seven-month-old Ryan was playing in the house when he found the keys lying there. He quickly swallowed the keys while playing with them. Ryan was rushed to a nearby private hospital. The doctors there asked to take Ryan to Shatabdi Hospital. But Ryan's family brought him to Rajawadi Hospital.
When Ryan was admitted to the Rajawadi Hospital, Dr Devika Shere of the Ear, Nose and Throat Department noticed that he was having trouble breathing as the keys were stuck in his windpipe. So he decided to do surgery immediately. Dr. Devika Shere, Head of Anesthesia Department Dr. Rina Nebu and Dr. Supriya Yempalle examined Ryan and found that the keys were stuck in his throat and windpipe.
The key and the ring attached to it were stuck near Ryan’s tonsils. The two keys and the ring were first removed from the larynx, being careful not to damage the larynx and its arteries. Another key was then found in Ryan's nasal cavity during further examination. The third key, which had slipped into the nasal cavity, was also extracted with relentless effort. In my 12-year career, Dr Devika Shere said that this is the first and rare case of removing three keys from the oral cavity of a seven-month-old child.
