Doctors associated with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) run hospitals are working hard to ensure proper treatment and care is offered to the patients suffering from coronavirus infection. Ever since the coronavirus outbreak, several doctors have ensured the best services are given in these tough times. However, during the treatment and over these few months, several doctors themselves have caught the infection and have suffered poor health.

Keeping this in mind, they need to be on leave for their own safety. However, reports state that the BMC has decided to give them only one day leave, and this decision taken by the Municipal Corporation has been opposed by the MARD Association of Sion Hospital.

It is said that the decision was passed on Thursday, September 10, 2020, however, keeping the unfair terms in mind, the association at Mumbai's Sion Hospital has decided to hold a seven-day protest against the decision. The protest began from Friday, September 11, 2020. Furthermore, some doctor wants to attend the non-COVID patients immediately after a day's rest, but doctors have to deal with many other problems while on COVID duty. Hence, they have demanded that the doctor's rest period needs to be substantial and not be reduced, to ensure safety and precaution.

On the first day of the protest, doctors from the OPD ward and surgery departments of the hospital were working with black ribbons on their left arm, expressing their concern. The following days, doctors planned to wear either a blue ribbon standing up for depression, a green ribbon for anxiety, a red ribbon for anger, a dark blue for integrity, a yellow ribbon for optimism, and/or a white ribbon.

Coronavirus cases in the state have hit the all-time high of more than 24,000 cases in a day. The state tally stands at 1,01,5681 with 28,724 deaths. Maharashtra is also the only state in India to have more than one million cases, and this has raised concerns amongst the public and the government.
