Santacruz - Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated a new neo natal intensive care unit at the Surya hospital in Santacruz on Monday. This is reportedly the largest such intensive care unit for infants and newborns with a 150 bed facility. State health minister Deepak Sawant was present on this occasion. Research indicates that around 8,00,000 newborns die in India every year. Maharashtra takes second place in such infant mortalities in the country, mainly due to a lack of proper medical facilities. The Surya hospital's NICU ( neo natal intensive care unit ) appears to be the right step towards newborn and infant care.
