Tata Hospital has decided to provide facilities in five affiliated centres to treat cancer in children. A plan is being prepared in this regard and through these centres it will be possible to treat more than six thousand patients every year.


Children suffering from cancer are treated at Tata Hospital in Parel. Through Tata Hospital, more than 4,000 patients are treated every year at hospitals in Kharghar, Guwahati, Varanasi, Visakhapatnam and Chandigarh. Chandigarh and Visakhapatnam have facilities to treat only 100 children. But for more children to get treatment, Tata Hospital has tightened its belt and has decided to increase the facilities for paediatric patients in all affiliated centres.

Currently, this facility is available at six centres, but soon the facility will be made available at other five centres as well. Each centre will be encouraged to treat at least one thousand patients every year. Head of Pediatric Oncology Department of Tata Hospital, Girish Chinnaswamy informed that it is likely to take at least two years to provide facilities at all centres.


About 70,000 children are diagnosed with cancer every year in the country. Tata patients have tightened their belts to find a way out.


Fundraising efforts

  • The hospital is raising funds through donors to provide free treatment to children in these centres affiliated to Tata Hospital
  • This fund will not only treat the children but also provide their nutrition, education and accommodation
  • Last year, Tata Hospital collected a fund of INR 60 crore for patients
