The cases of coronavirus have witnessed a decline in the Thane district with the area becoming 90 per cent COVID-19 free with only seven per cent active cases, according to the Zilla Parishad (ZP).

The Gram Panchayats situated in areas like Bhiwandi, Ambernath, Kalyan, Murbad and Shahapur had witnessed a hike in COVID-19 cases a few months ago. However, 89 per cent of them have recovered from these areas.

As per reports, the ZP came up with a new initiative wherein areas with positive cases were declared containment zones and a health camp was set up in these zones for 14 days. They conducted regular check-ups of villagers and ensured that those with symptoms were treated as soon as possible. This helped break the chain.

On the other hand, Thane’s civic body, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) recently initiated the groundwork for six more clusters of the Cluster Development Scheme (CDS) proposed for the city. This comes after the civic body received approval for the Urban Renewal Plans (URP) for the first six clusters of CDS. The upcoming clusters will consist of Azadnagar, Thane Station area, Charai, Mahagiri, Siddheshwar, and Gokul Nagar. The proposals for these locations were reportedly tabled in the TMC’s general body meeting which was held on November 20.

Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Saturday, December 5, reported 4,922 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally in the state to 18,47,509. Moreover, with 95 more patients succumbing to the disease, the overall toll in the state mounted to 47,694. At the same time, 5,834 patients were discharged after treatment during the day, taking the tally of recoveries to 17,15,884. The state now has 82,849 active cases of COVID-19.
