According to media reports, the police station in Mankhurd, as well as the building where it is located, have been declared as a containment zone. Two individuals, residing in the building, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus on Friday which led to the declaration of the building as a containment zone.
The police station is, however, said to remain functional as it offers essential services. However, the personnel have asserted that all necessary measures are being taken in order to contain the spread of contagious disease. According to officials, the station premises are being disinfected multiple times a day. Meanwhile, both the residents have been shifted to a COVID-19 care centre for treatment.
The building that is located at the Lallubhai compound is a seven-story building and consists of around 250 residents. Thirty rooms in the structure have been allotted for the police station on the first, second and third floors for them to conduct their duties.
The police have stated that the stairwell from the third floor has been sealed and the residents have been asked not to step out except for essential purposes. Only one member of each family is allowed to step out to purchase milk, vegetables, medicines or other essential items for everyday use. The police have further assured the residents that help will be provided to them in case of emergencies.
In the past, on June 20, four accused who were arrested in a murder case and kept in the lockup of the police station had also tested positive for the coronavirus. According to the protocol, the accused was allegedly sent to a government hospital so that he could take the test for COVID-19. On June 20, the police found four of the nine accused positive. As per media sources, the four accused are currently undergoing treatment at the Shivaji Nagar isolation centre.
