The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will conduct a special drive on Thursday, September 9, for those eligible for a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

This comes after demands from several quarters for consistent free vaccination drives in the city, which is battling a short supply of vaccines.

On Tuesday, September 8, the BMC announced that it will not administer the first dose of vaccine at civic and government-run centres tomorrow.

According to reports, over 300 civic and government-run centres will only administer a second dose on September 9.

However, this is the second time in a week that BMC is conducting a special drive for those awaiting a second dose. On September 4, the civic body conducted a similar drive.

Meanwhile, it has also come to light that the city received three lakh doses from the state, the highest tranche it has ever got on September 8. Of the three lakh doses received from the state on Tuesday, 2.95 lakh are Covishield.

Moreover, insufficiency of doses caused vaccination to drop on Tuesday. Besides, the civic body has also stated that with a consistent vaccine supply, the adult population can be fully vaccinated by early next year.

In addition, according to data received by the BMC, Mumbai hit the milestone of administering more than 1 crore vaccine doses against coronavirus last week.
