According to sources, intensive care units along with ventilators are to be provided in the hospitals of Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.

Moreover, these facilities will be available in the main hospitals, suburban hospitals and maternity wards of the corporation where the critical patients will be able to get the required services on time.

After the increase of COVID-19 infection in Mumbai, the Municipal Corporation started COVID-19 Care Center-1, COVID-19 Care Center-2, COVID-19 Health Dedicated Center and Jumbo COVID-19 Center in various places. Even though some centres were gradually closed after the number of infected patients came under control, currently, the instances of cases of coronavirus are on a rise.

Meanwhile, the administration has appointed a committee to review the condition of ventilators, ICUs and hospitals. The BMC has three main hospitals, 16 suburban hospitals and maternity hospitals. Municipal hospitals receive a large number of patients not only from Mumbai but also from other parts of Maharashtra along with other states due to which KEM, Sion, Nair hospitals in Mumbai have huge crowds of patients.

On the other hand, on Sunday, February 14, Mumbai recorded 645 fresh cases of the coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally in the city to 3,14,076. Moreover, according to the data shared by the civic body, there are 5,608 active cases whereas 2,96,195 patients have completely recovered. In addition, the death toll is at 11,417 in the city.

The recovery rate stands at 94 per cent. At present 30,14,520 tests have been conducted by the civic body. There are 88 contaminated zones in slums and chawls while 1,073 buildings are sealed by the BMC.
