The Technical Advisory Group of World Health Organization (WHO) has recommended the Emergency Use Listing (EUL) status for the Bharat Biotech coronavirus vaccine, Covaxin, on Wednesday evening, November 3. The WHO also stated that this adds to a growing portfolio of vaccines validated by WHO for the prevention of COVID-19.

People in India are rejoicing this news since the made in India COVID-19 vaccine will be recognized by other nations. Therefore, citizens who have been administered the jab would not need to quarantine themselves or face limitations when they travel abroad.

The process for approval was ongoing for the past few months. According to reports, the Centre mentioned in July to the Rajya Sabha that the requisite documents, needed for the WHO EUL have been provided by the company as of July 9. Post this, the international health body had begun the review process.

Additionally, on October 18, the WHO elaborated that it was expecting an additional piece of information from the company regarding the vaccine that was being examined by the WHO’s experts for the grant of the Emergency Use Listing. It had then made several statements elucidating that it couldn’t “cut corners”, highlighting that the time period for the Emergency Use Listing was based on how promptly the manufactures will offer the requisite data.
