Since our childhood, we have heard that the basic need for a person is food, clothing, and shelter but we often forget about one most important requirement, that is, basic health care. World Health Day is observed every year on April 7.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has kept the theme for this occasion as ‘Universal Health’, i.e., ‘health services to everyone’. This highlights the role and responsibilities of the government to provide its people with basic and proper healthcare.

Currently, the healthcare facilities in most parts of the world are still inadequate and don’t reach the people in need. This theme has been set up to provide good healthcare to the patients or commoners. Mumbai Live interacted with expert doctors and talked about the governments and our responsibilities on the issue.

Dr. Anant Phadke spoke to Mumbai Live and said that, in the current scenario, the government needs to focus on its policy for the public healthcare which will make the basic medical services available to the people. He said that the government and people have the responsibility of paying attention towards daily pollution, waste management, eating nutritious food, lifestyle, and cleanliness. Dr. Phadke further added that people should take care of daily lifestyle too.

Phadke informed that “In India, we need around 20 lakh doctors but only one million are available and that affects the conditioning of patients.” “Therefore, the most urgent need is to increase the number of doctors,” adding that the government should focus to provide better medical care to the people in villages.

Dr. Rahul Ghule spoke to Mumbai Live and suggested that the medical services shall be provided at a lower rate. He said that “People should go for regular check-ups,” adding that, “If you are already aware and cautious, it will help in reducing all queries.”

Dr. Jayesh Layle said that “You should eat less oil and the cholesterol will decrease. Also, less sugar would help reduce weight.”

It is necessary to go for a thorough body examination three times a year. So, take an oath of taking care of yourself and your family on the occasion of World Health Day.
