A Zika patient has been found in the 'M West' section of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). However, the patient's condition is stable and he is being treated. The citizens of the area where this patient was found are being medically examined.
It has been noticed that an elderly person in Chembur locality in BMC's 'M West' division office has been infected with Zika. The patient was immediately admitted to the municipal hospital and is undergoing treatment. The condition of this person is now stable. The information of this person has been taken and it has been pointed out that some people in his family have come from abroad. So all of them are being medically examined.
Similarly, the citizens of the society where this elderly person lives and the surrounding societies have also been medically examined, and no Zika patient has been found among them, informed the officials of the civic body.
Meanwhile, the first case of Zika in Maharashtra was reported in Belsar in Purandar taluka of Pune district in July 2021. A 50-year-old woman was infected.
What is Zika disease?
Zika is a mild disease caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito (Yellow fever mosquito). 80 percent of patients with this disease do not have any symptoms. Other patients experience fever, joint pain, body ache, headache, red eyes, vomiting, malaise, fever, body rash.
