73 building in extremely dangerous condition in Thane, 43 in Naupada ward alone

Ahead of monsoons, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) had conducted a pre-monsoon survey. In this survey, it found that nearly 4,522 buildings were in dangerous conditions and those need minor to major repairs.

Ahead of monsoons, the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) had conducted a pre-monsoon survey. In this survey, it found that nearly 4,522 buildings were in dangerous conditions and those need minor to major repairs.

Of these, over 73 buildings are in the extremely dangerous category (C1) while 154 in C2A.

Meanwhile, it has come to light that among the nine wards in TMC, 43 of the 73 buildings in the C1 category (extremely dangerous) are in Naupada Prabhag. Whereas, Majiwada have one such building.

Lokmanya-Savarkar ward has seven buildings in extremely dangerous categories, followed by six each in Uthalsar and Kalwa, and five each in Mumbra and Diva. However, there are none in Wagale and Vartak Nagar.

Ashok Burpulle, the deputy municipal commissioner, encroachment, said that notices have been given to buildings that are in the C-1 category and 55 out of them have already been vacated. Those where repair work is needed have been asked to do so and submit the audit report to the civic body. Action has also been taken on some buildings, he added.

Moreover, the survey states 2,416 buildings are in C2B (can be repaired without evacuation).

1,879 in the C3 (minor repairs needed) category with the highest 981 in Kalwa and 711 in Diva ward. 2,416 buildings are among those which can be repaired without evacuation.

Last week, 36 families in Mumbra were evacuated after a 25 to 30 years-old residential building developed cracks in Mumbra.
