In a significant development amid ongoing controversy around pothole issues, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Tuesday, August 23, told Mumbai's entire road network would be concretised in the next two years to prevent potholes.

Shinde said that tenders have been issued for concretisation of roads on 603 km.

While addressing at the state assembly session, Shinde stated that work on road concretisation has started on priority after the government gave directions that during the rains, potholes should not be found even if one searches for them.

It is a well-known fact that Mumbaikars always face issues due to bad roads since decades now. The complaints about the same go unheard and the cycle continues.

Besides, according to a research, it has come to light that there has been a surge in cases of backache and neck pain, especially among those between 25 and 40 years of age.

It is pertinent to note a that few days ago, on August 17, a couple died on the Western Express Highway (WEH) near Borivali due to potholes. After which, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) took a step towards to eliminate potholes amid festivities.

Meanwhile, according to data received by the BMC, 16,000 potholes were reported till July 21. Of these, 8,000 were reported in just 18 days. The highest numbers were reported from Malad, Jogeshwari and Andheri. However, 15,000 potholes have been filled in the past month.

On the other hand, former Leader of Opposition in BMC Ravi Raja accused the BMC administration and said that there are still more than 25 thousand potholes on the roads. Every year before the Ganeshotsav, the BMC dreams of paddling the streets of Mumbai to Ganesh devotees, but the potholes are not filled even after the festivities begin.
