In Kharghar, an all-purpose indoor sports arena is set to be constructed on a 500 sq m land given by the CIDCO to YMCA. It will be equipped with amenities for a plethora of sports that include the likes of archery, rifle shooting and adventure sports. Based on a report by the Times of India, it is anticipated that the sports complex will also accommodate a 30-ft climbing wall.

According to the report, the arena which is expected to be functional from 2023 is anticipated to nearly cost Rs 3.5 cr. The complex’s primary motive is to offer state-of-the-art facilities to the general public.

Paul George, YMCA General Secretary based on the account said that the objective is to advocate good health and fitness amongst the youth, whilst serving families from all sections of the society. They want to propel all to lead a healthy life by keeping their mind and body fit. Apart from this, they look to train budding athletes in competitive sports who can then, on an international stage represent the country. Additionally, eminent professional international coaches will train these athletes.

The arena will be located along the majestic Kharghar hills, near the Shilp Valley project at plot no 11 of sector 36. Local citizens will be spoilt for choice with aerobics, archery, ballet for fitness, bodybuilding, bouldering, carrom, chess, dance, gymnastics, martial arts, net turf cricket, rappelling, rifle shooting, rink football, rock climbing, table tennis, weight building, yoga, and Zumba.

The complex is not just set to have a contemporary fitness centre, but also a sports training facility that will have short- and long-term certificate diploma courses in physical education and sports affiliated to the sports ministry.

George said that national and international sports competitions will be conducted there with the goal being to prepare for the Olympics in the coming years. He elaborated that a minimal training fee will be charged to operate the arena on a no-profit no-loss base. Scholarships to meritorious and necessitous students will also be provided.

Officials have also enunciated that while the project will be completed in two years, its construction will be undertaken with green building ideas.
