The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) started concreting two roads in Cheetah Camp in Trombay. The Cheetah Camp Road project is back on track after a delay of two years. The residents are opposing civic body’s current plans for this road. They are saying that the civic body should also remove encroachments and construct the road to its actual size.

In April 2022, the civic body issued a work order for both roadways. The BMC is not concreting the road in accordance with its actual size. The Cheetah Camp Road is surrounded by encroachments on both sides. At least five metres will be added to the breadth if the BMC removes this encroachment.

The locals said that hawkers had expanded onto the road and stores had invaded the pavement. Intruders have been disregarded by the BMC. Two cars can travel in parallel if the BMC clears the encroachment along Ganesh Kirti Mandal Road. However, the BMC is not sincere about expanding roads.

Civic records show that in April 2022, the BMC issued a work order for the MGR Road and Ganesh Kirti Mandal Road. The MGR road is approximately one-kilometre long, and the project cost is INR 5.91 crore. The Ganesh Kirti Mandal Road is likewise roughly 700 yards long, and the project would set you back INR 1.32 crore.

Last month, a meeting between the residents and zonal Deputy Municipal Commissioner Harshad Kale took place. In the meeting, the residents demanded from BMC the removal of the encroachments.

An official from M east ward said that according to the width and length of the road as of this moment, a work order for the concretization of the roads has been issued. They have to go through a procedure before getting rid of the encroachment.

After serving a notice and requesting documentation, they must carefully review the materials before making a determination regarding encroachment. Officials will require a lot of time for this. Until then, road concretization cannot be stopped, said the official.

The official further added that the stormwater drain repair project has commenced. The drain and the road are kept at the same level. As of the present time, the civic body has made the decision to begin working under the tender specifications. They will begin a process to address encroachment as work is completed.

They will finish developing the road on the remaining width of the road after the encroachment has been eliminated. The official stated there will be no need to move the drain while enlarging the road since they are keeping it at road level.
