
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday, July 6, issued a safety advisory for all construction sites across Mumbai as the city continues to experience heavy rainfall and strong winds of up to 70–80 kmph.
The advisory comes in the wake of a recent road cave-in near an under-construction site in Bhandup's Sonapur area, where a vehicle partially sank into a pit after heavy rain. Although no injuries were reported, the incident raised concerns about construction safety during the monsoon.
The BMC has directed developers, architects, licensed surveyors, contractors, project managers and site engineers to immediately implement precautionary measures to safeguard workers, nearby residents and the general public.

"The safety of workers, neighbouring residents and the general public is of paramount importance," the civic body said, urging developers and contractors to strictly follow established construction safety standards and best practices.
The safety directive comes as Mumbai continues to face widespread disruption due to persistent rainfall. In addition to the Bhandup road cave-in, the city has witnessed incidents of tree falls, severe waterlogging and the collapse of a chawl in Mankhurd, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance at construction sites during the monsoon season.
