The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has proposed a 5.5-km Greenfield Expressway connecting Goregaon (Film City) to Magathane, running parallel to the Western Express Highway (WEH). This new corridor, part of the Mumbai Coastal Road (North) project, will link the Versova–Dahisar–Bhayandar Link Road (VDBLR) with the Goregaon–Mulund Link Road (GMLR), providing faster and more seamless connectivity between the city and the suburbs.

The expressway will offer direct access from the Coastal Road to Magathane, from where vehicles can reach the GMLR through twin tunnels currently under construction beneath Film City in Goregaon. This will create uninterrupted connectivity to Mulund in the eastern suburbs and further to Airoli, significantly reducing travel time.

Officials said the main aim of the project is to connect major highways and rapid transit routes, addressing the heavy traffic congestion on existing expressways. Once completed, journeys that currently take over an hour are expected to be cut down to just 10 minutes.

The BMC has finalised construction plans, but some encroachments along the route still need to be cleared. After this, cost estimates will be prepared, and the tendering process will begin. The administration aims to complete the project within the next three years, offering a major boost to Mumbai’s transport infrastructure.
