In the wake of a devastating building collapse that claimed the lives of two individuals in Ghatkopar's Rajawada Colony, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken a proactive step to address the issue of dilapidated buildings. The BMC has decided to reach out to the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA). It is seeking their assistance in dealing with this pressing matter.

There are 88 buildings in the BMC's N ward, which encompasses Ghatkopar and Vidyavihar, that share similar structural concerns. It is interesting to note that the collapsed building in Rajawada Colony is owned by MHADA. This ownership implicates MHADA's responsibility for ensuring the safety and stability of the buildings under its purview.

Recognising this, the BMC has decided to write to MHADA and other planning authorities, urging them to conduct comprehensive assessments of the structural integrity of these buildings. The primary goal of BMC's proposed action is to prevent future disasters and safeguard the lives of citizens.
