The construction of Nariman Point to Malad Marve Coastal road which is being undertaken by the Municipal Corporation of Mumbai is divided into three phases and three individual contractors are being appointed.

Three independent advisors will be hired for these contractors, in turn. About ₹225 crore is being spent on the advisors.

The construction of the 35.60 km long Mumbai Marine Road (Coastal Road) stretching over the coastline from Nariman Point to Malad Marve was undertaken on June 6, 2015. The Municipal Corporation has decided to start the work of Coastal Road from this year. However, four contractors have been appointed for this job till date.

Messrs Stoop Consultants and E & Y Technical Consultants were appointed to make a detailed report of this project. Advisor Frishman Prabhu was assigned to review the report prepared by the consultant. Now that the work of the project is divided into three parts, Lewis Berger Consulting Pvt Ltd Company and Ezis India Consulting Engineering Pvt Ltd Company have been selected for the contract work for the first two phases.

The appointment of the third consultant is in process.

There will be two contracts; Priyadarshini Park to Vadodara Palace and Vadodara Palace to Bandra Worli Sea Coast- handled by individual consultants. The concerned parties have been allocated ₹69.86 crore and ₹55.25 crore respectively. A total of ₹125 crore is being spent on the consultants.

About ₹68 crore will be spent on the third consultancy. Besides, billions of rupees have already been spent on Frishman Prabhu. Therefore, the total expenditure of all advisors and consultants has exceeded ₹200 crore.

Chief Engineer of Coastal Road Project, Machilawal explained, “Frishman Prabhu was appointed to reconsider the technical report made by the advisor of the stock. A tender is being called again to reselect the advisory for the third phase of the project.”

A provision of ₹1500 crores has been made from the Budget 2018-19 for the Coastal Road. The Commissioner stated that the project will be taken up this year without fail. Consultants will be tasked to monitor the progress of work from contractors' tenders.
