As Mumbai received heavy rainfall the first week of August, the NS Patkar Marg or Hughes Road is yet to receive repair work by the civic body of Mumbai, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Moreover, the traffic in South Mumbai is in mayhem due to the delayed repair work on the roads. More than two months after the landslide, the BMC, not only has not started the repair work but as per reports, it has not even floated the tender to finalize a contractor to do the job.

The road, which links Opera House with Kemps Corner and connects Peddar Road to the north, was closed for over a month after the landslide on August 5. As of now, it is open for south-bound traffic in the mornings and north-bound traffic in the evenings, leading to overcrowding of vehicular traffic in the area.

Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Chahal had earlier visited the spot after the city was lashed with the continual downpour. Addressing the media, Chahal had stated that the traffic on the route has been diverted after the landslide incident adding that work is underway to clear the rocks and trees. He further informed that four water pipelines in the area had also burst.

Mumbai had earlier witnessed continual downpour for three days in the first week of August. Due to the rains, several areas witnessed waterlogging like Hindmata, Dadar TT, Sion Road No. 24, Gandhi Market, Sion Road No. 14 Ruia College, SIES College, Samaj Mandir Hall, Pratikshanagar. Trees were uprooted in many places in South Mumbai as a consequence as well.
